Colour Psychology - Orange

Summer has finally arrived and in celebration of this glorious day, I am going to look at the colour orange in my colour psychology series.

Orange radiates warmth and happiness, combining the physical energy and stimulation of red with the cheerfulness of yellow.

The colour psychology of orange is optimistic and uplifting, rejuvenating our spirit. Take advantage of all the positive properties of orange by introducing elements of this colour into your everyday life. Flowers, art, finishing touches.

Orange brings spontaneity and a positive outlook on life; it represents free spirits and the ability to be yourself.

With its enthusiasm for life, you will find it hard not to be inspired by the most extrovert colour!

For me, orange reminds me of my time in the Caribbean “It’s seriously easy going” or, to quote Bob Marley “Don’t worry, Be happy” I think this is a perfect way to summarise the colour orange.

Have a beautiful day.

  1. Great post, Laura! Orange is a peculiar colour when it comes to interiors. Some love it, some hate it. I like its vibrancy and warmth. But I would only use small doses in interiors to accentuate with orange. I wouldn't go too bold with it, but that's my personal taste.

  2. Thanks Igor, I completely agree, It does have that marmite effect! Love it or hate it! Again, I would personally only use to complement a scheme, such as the 2nd image with the orange Eames chair! Love that!

  3. Orange isn't normally a colour that is widely used - but featuring it as key selected pieces like you have shown above, I think, really works! The orange arm chair is my favourite.

  4. I think many people are scared of the colour, you need to have some confidence to use this and choose the correct shade. But it can look wonderful as these images prove.
