The White Room

Every time I see a white room I am drawn towards it, like a moth to the light!

I have recently been thinking about new design ideas for our living room and I think (providing the husband agrees) this is the route I am going to take, White with a rustic, homely feel.

White does not need to equate to boring, you can still create a warm and welcoming home. Use key pieces of furniture to create visual interest, layer texture and use different materials, wood, metal, leather.

White rooms are an opportunity to draw attention to elements that might otherwise be lost. To focus on the more beautiful and sentimental possessions in the room. To allow for texture and light to be focal points, not afterthoughts. Pictures and art always look beautiful on a White wall too. They seem to pop rather than fade away into a more colourful design.

There is a psychological connection between the colour and design of a room and our mood. Light is the first element that dictates our mood so keeping the design simple allows light to flood our environment therefore having a more positive impact on us.

It always looks clean and bright and the simplicity allows you to clear your mind both visually and mentally. Perfect after a hard day at work!

Peek into my Home

You have probably heard me say this before but I love looking at other peoples home. On more than one occasion I have been caught having a little glance through someones window as I'm walking past!

With that in mind, I thought i'd share with you some of the things I love in my home at the moment!

I love my coffee table filled with books and flowers!

Our Kitchen shelf was a gift from Jamie parents, sanded and painted I love it and it is filled some very special items including corkscrew and coin from our wedding morning, Mrs & Mrs wedding gift, Wicker hearts were our pew ends! I also especially like the tin can with is currently housing some flowers picked from the garden.

New oil bottles, a gift from Jamie's parents Sunday! We love cooking. I love my jars out with homemade labels and my new flowers.

We brought the mirror from an antique shop and was an absolute bargain, I love it. Our bed was a wedding gift and was exactly what I dreamed of and you've seen my newly refurbished chest of drawers!

I hope you've enjoyed the guilt free pleasure of snooping at someone else's home! I have some big ideas for our home as we have not yet decorated all the rooms but for now, these are some parts that I love!

Finishing Touches: Flowers

Tonight I took a trip to the local supermarket for my weekly shop! While I was there I thought i'd treat myself to some new flowers, I absolutely adore having flowers all over my house. In small vases, big vases, jars, sweet containers, cups........

Flowers really are the finishing touch to a home, I don't know about you but they always make me smile. They are aesthetically pleasing and they smell divine, especially when you return home from a long day at work! Nothing beats coming home to a room filled with flowers and settling down with a cuppa tea, or hot chocolate in my case and reading a few pages from a really great book!

They can make a big impact as one large display or as I tend to do, break down a bunch into smaller ones and fill jam jars, cups, a mixture of vases and create a collection. Or, use a small vase with one individual flower, more isn't always more!

I hope you have found some inspiration and these beautiful blooms have brought a smile to your face. I have my flowers ready to show you but this will have to wait until tomorrow when the light is better for the photographs! Right now, I am going to enjoy my new flowers with a hot chocolate perhaps.

Honouring Great Britain!

I think we can all agree that the past few days have been ones of disbelief, shock and sadness. I know that the London riots have stopped me in my tracks.

But, I for one believe that there is still more good than bad out there and let us not forget all the wonderful things about our capital and country.

In honour of Great Britain I would like to share with you some Great images.
This design has been huge this year and never before has it felt more appropriate. Whether your design crush is vintage, shabby, modern there is something for you.

Let's all remember our Great Britain.

Vintage Suitcases

Today I saw some stacked suitcases and thought how wonderful they would look as a side table. They bring so much character don't you think?

Here is a collection of images I have gathered to inspire you!

If you like the idea of using beautiful vintage suitcases in your home as a side table or coffee table then you will love my recent blog post about 'Crates & Ladders'!
